In December 2021 we went for a holiday to Rajasthan . We covered Udaipur , Jaipur and Kumbhalgarh out of which I found Kumbhalgarh the most gorgeous . We were short of time otherwise it was worth spending more days there.
We took a direct train from Chandigarh to Udaipur . After the two days' sight seeing like City Palace , lakes , boating , Sahelion ki baari and enjoying the street food , the third day we planned to visit Kumbhalgarh .
Kumbhalgarh Fort is situated on the westerly range of Aravalli Hills, in the Rajsamand district near Udaipur of Rajasthan state .The fort is also known to be the birthplace of Maharana Pratap .
It has the second-longest wall of the world after the Great Wall of China and this fort is a World Heritage Site included in Hill Forts of Rajasthan. It was built during the 15th century by Rana Kumbha.
We enquired about the ways to reach the fort but the taxi service was very expensive . So we asked local people how to reach there by bus . Daily 3-4 buses ply between Udaipur and Kumbhalgarh . So after the street food breakfast of Dosa , Idli , Poha and Dal Baati Choorma we reached the bus stop . After about half an hour a local bus arrived which was to drop us at a town Kelwara and from there Kumbhalgarh would be just 7 kms away. The journey was enjoyable as we got to see the culture of local Rajasthan people in the bus . After about two and a half hours we reached a small beautiful town Kelwara and just as we got down we got a local Jeep which took us to Kumbhalgarh fort . That was just a few minutes drive .
Of all the forts I have uncovered in my life as yet, this was the most attractive one . One is mesmerized by the beauty of many temples within that fort complex and ofcourse the second largest wall of the world amidst the scenic hills and clouds .
Hours passed like minutes exploring the nooks and corners of this amazing fort .
In the hills it starts getting dark quite early and the fort closes at 7 pm so we had to leave a part of the fort to move out in time . It started getting chillier and then suddenly raining too . After a quick hot masala tea in a tuck shop , we moved out with the confusion of ' what next ' .
Luckily there were many autos and jeeps available . We hired an auto which left us at that nearby town Kelwara . We got a room for overnight in a small hotel . But we didn't have our clothes etc. as all our luggage was still in Udaipur . Well we enjoyed that night in the absence of any luggage or even phone charger . That was the moment i realised:
" We can leave most of the things behind and travel light to really enjoy travel "
Next day morning I got up early with the chirping of birds . My husband and daughter were still in bed when i couldn't stop myself from a morning walk in the beautiful valley surrounded by hills . Just roaming around I got to see a very old Jain temple and few minutes spent there were very blissful .
Again had the breakfast of Poha and Idli and then reached bus stop to get a bus to Udaipur . The bus was to start an hour later . We were waiting just when a local guy came and offered us for sight seeing . We agreed and he took us to a fish point . My daughter enjoyed feeding fishes there and we came back to finally get into the bus .
